Synopsis : In this fast paced world of instant fame, instant gratification, casual flings and drugs, parents are growing increasingly concerned about the future of their children. They would want to ideally protect them from the uncertainties and the pain of being exposed to the fast track, by persuading, them and if necessary, even forcing their children into a solid education, steady jobs and careers as doctors, engineers, the family business and so on.

However the question remains: What do the children really want for themselves? Do they perceive this fast paced world as a den of potential destruction? Or do they see it as a land of opportunity where dreams can come true; where anyone and everyone has an equal chance to dream big, be rich, be famous, be special, and most importantly be free from the shackles that society and our parents put on us from the time we are born to be "successful" in the terms defined by society. These kids don't want to blend into the crowd and live ordinary lives that are pre-mapped out by others. They don't want to be forced into the tedious existence of being pressurized into getting a high paying job, a house, car, family, kids. No, these kids just want to be left alone. They just want to "be".

Because of this difference in points of view, parents and children are bound to clash. To children, the parents appear as the enemy, who are trying to tie them down and restrict their freedom to live their lives on their own terms. Whereas the parents see their children as lost souls blindly following their erratic emotional impulses that could potentially lead them to their own doom and destruction. This film is about the youth who dare to dream the impossible dream. This film is about those fragile souls who are in desperate search of that elusive thing called "happiness". Not finding it in their parent's and society's safe plan of the security of a decent job and a stable life, they look for it elsewhere, in their search of fame, in love, in chemical & substance abuse and artistic freedom of expression, all in the hope to maybe stand out in the crowd or maybe just be free to explore the simple life and just be themselves, even if that means not being "successful".

Maybe the reality is that they will remain ordinary. Perhaps they may never reach the stars and shine brighter than the rest. They might turn out to be the "losers" that everyone thinks they are. While reaching for the Sun they might crash and burn. And it's possible that their dreams may never come true... But that really isn't the point of dreaming, is it. The whole fun of dreaming is the "potential", the "possibility", the sheer joy of living in the magical land of "What if ..."

Today's young blood craves to be different and unique just as much as they crave to be left alone and left out of this mad rat race of today's world of big achievers. Some want to be remembered for who they are and what they did, while others simply want to be able to breathe freely, and live without the enormous pressure to succeed according to the norm.

The youth of our city and global village want to follow their own road to happiness. They want to follow their calling... They are the spirit and inspiration behind "Kolkata Calling".
